The aim of counselling is to allow a person to talk through their problems with someone who is trained to listen and not judge. I will take the time to fully understand your feelings and thoughts. This can be really helpful, as this simple process can allow you to find answers which you can use to cope better with whatever is going on for you.

There are so many different types of counselling it can be difficult to know which one is right for you. To help with this, below is a brief description of the talking therapies available through me.

The Person-Centred Approach
In this approach to counselling, I will work with you in the belief that you are a unique person and you are the expert on what you have lived through. I will take the time to appreciate fully the thoughts and feelings which you have. The idea is that you will take me on a journey through your experience and together we will make sense of your problem. I will not tell you what to talk about or how to think – you can talk about anything which is on your mind.

Just having another person to talk to in this way is helpful and leads to positive changes in you.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Using this approach, I will also treat you as an individual who is the expert. The difference here is that we will work in partnership and focus on more targeted issues with which you would like support. We will discuss your thoughts (cognitions) and feelings and how these can make you behave in certain ways. We all have thoughts and behaviours which are helpful and some which are unhelpful to us. In CBT, I will support you every step of the way to find a focused and realistic solution to your problem.

Whichever approach appeals to you the most, you get to decide on which path we take, whether this is one or both of them. If you would like a chat to discuss this further, please contact us.

What is Calm Birth?
At Calm birth we use a lot of simple techniques to help you feel calm, relaxed and in control. The more you practise these the better your birth experience will be. I will help you to release fear, stay calm and focussed, and work with your body in a natural way to give birth comfortably.

Is Calm Birth for me?
YES! Calm Birth is suitable for everyone and really does make a difference. Research shows that these techniques can reduce pain, anxiety, stress, and the likelihood of needing interventions during birth. It is better for you and your baby. It really is worth doing!

You will learn about:
  • your body during pregnancy, labour and birth
  • the power of the mind
  • relaxation techniques to use throughout your pregnancy, labour and birth
  • your rights during pregnancy, labour and birth
  • what happens after birth

Payment Policy

  • Payment of fees must be paid at the start of the session.
  • Package deals and programs must be paid in full at the first session.
  • We accept cash or bank transfer - bank details will be provided.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations, for whatever reason, need to be made 2 days prior to your appointment. If a cancellation is made after this time you will be liable for the full fee.

NB - Package deals must be cancelled 2 days prior to the first session and are non-refundable if cancelled after that time.
